How it works
This tool determines your public IP address and location using only the IP address without GPS or browser geolocation. The IP address is extracted from HTTP request headers and then used to get location information through the ipinfo.io service.
IP Address Detection
The IP address is determined in the following priority order:
- CF-Connecting-IP - for requests through Cloudflare
- X-Forwarded-For - first IP from proxy list
- X-Real-IP - real client IP
- Server IP (if headers are not available)
Geolocation Accuracy
IP geolocation accuracy varies depending on several factors:
- Country: usually accurate 95-99%
- Region/state: 80-90% accuracy
- City: 60-80% accuracy
- Coordinates: approximate, may differ by kilometers
Factors Affecting Accuracy
- VPN and proxy - show VPN server location, not your real location
- Mobile networks - may show base station location
- Satellite internet - may show ground station location
- Database updates - new IP ranges may not be added immediately
Network Information
The tool also shows additional network information:
- ASN (Autonomous System Number) - unique number for an autonomous system on the internet
- Organization - company that owns the IP address (usually an internet service provider)
Privacy
We do not store your IP addresses or personal information. All data is processed through ipinfo.io and cached for 5 minutes to improve performance. When logging, we mask the last octet of IPv4 or last hextet of IPv6.
